NZIIU Scholarship for Language Perfect Gold Award Winner

Ten names have been drawn at random from those students receiving Gold  Medals in the NZALT Language Olympics 2010. Teachers of these students have been notified by e-mail on September 2. Eligibility for the $4000 NZIIU scholarship is in order of priority on the list.

If you are on the list and are interested in applying for the scholarship, please fill out an initial application form which has been sent to your teacher and is also available on this website. You do NOT need to send the usual $50 application fee. If you do not have a passport, you can apply for one later.

The three students who are highest on the list and who submit an acceptable initial application before September 10 will be invited to complete a full application. Applications can be e-mailed to ian@nziiu.co.nz or posted to Ian Lambert, NZIIU, PO Box 99229, Newmarket, Auckland 1149. The student passing the subsequent interview who is highest on the list will be awarded the scholarship. If there are no students in the top ten who qualify, another ten names will be drawn. Interviews will be conducted in the second half of October.

The scholarship will be awarded as a reduction of $4000 in the usual fee.

You may still go on exchange with NZIIU even if you do not obtain a scholarship. There are no quotas in any country or on any programme except for the USA.

Scholarships for 2011 start dates

The first awards have been made already. If you’re hoping for scholarship assistance, get your application in now.

 Deadlines

The end of August deadlines have now been reached and no new interviews will be scheduled before mid-October.

 Stretched deadlines for France

There is a possibility that we may be able to take late applications for the six week exchange starting on December 10 and also perhaps for January starts. If you’re thinking of applying, let us know and we will see what can be done.

No Quotas

NZIIU has no quotas in any country except the USA. If you apply with us and we think you can can flourish on exchange, we’ll send you to the country you want on the programme you choose. We’re careful in our selection processes, provide thoughtful preparation based on long experience before you go and good support once you’re there.

Deadlines getting close

The deadlines for full applications for a number of exchanges are now very near. We will not be interviewing in September this year so we have less flexibility than usual. People going any any of the following exchanges in particular, should be sure to get their full applications completed as soon as possible and definitely by mid-August:

Six weeks in France starting in early December 2010

    January 2011 starts in Germany

    January 2011 starts in France

Three months in Japan starting in January 2011

Three months in Italy starting in early December 2010

The final deadline for applications for our scholarships to Germany is 16 August. These are great, needs-based scholarships and relatively easy to get.

New Scholarships for 2011 Starts

Our board has just set aside another $26,000 for the award of scholarships for exchanges starting in 2011. Individual awards are usually made in lumps of $2000 to $4000 and are available for any length of exchange to any country. They are given according to our perception of a student’s need for assistance and on their likely success on exchange. Applications are very simple and are made at the interview which comes at the end of the application process.

Many thanks to the large number of enthusiastic and well-qualified people who applied for the job of AYP-FFP Administrator. The position has now been filled and no more applications or interviews are necessary.

Start dates in August 2010 and January 2011

We are now accepting applications for this year’s round of scholarships to Germany. Our German affiliate is offering 6 full scholarships (half-year and year program) as well as 10 partial scholarships of 1,000 Euros each (2 and 3-month program). These are offered worldwide and NZ students have been awarded a high proportion of these in the last three years.

NZIIU currently has four students in Germany who were awarded these scholarships in 2010 as well as a further two who were awarded NZIIU scholarships.

The aim of these scholarships is to enable qualified students who are financially disadvantaged to participate in an exchange to Germany.

A full scholarship means that no fee will be charged for the programme but students will still have to find their airfare, pocket money and some other minor costs. With a partial scholarship, the usual programme fee is reduced by 1,000 Euros.
